Buyer Protection & Escrow Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Escrow overview

When you buy on ToneTrade, you pay through TradeSafe. TradeSafe holds cleared funds in escrow until the seller delivers and you accept the goods (or the acceptance window ends without a valid dispute). ToneTrade does not hold the purchase funds.

Visual walkthrough: How it works.

2. Buyer obligations

  • Pay only via ToneTrade / TradeSafe checkout for that order — never cash or EFT directly to the seller for marketplace deals.
  • On your first purchase, upload a clear SA ID or passport photo before paying (for safety / disputes — not shown publicly).
  • Provide a correct delivery address and be available for courier delivery.
  • Inspect the instrument promptly on arrival against the listing (condition, accessories, serial if stated).
  • Confirm acceptance if satisfied, or raise a dispute with evidence before the inspection window closes.

3. Seller obligations (buyer view)

  • Ship only after funds are confirmed in TradeSafe escrow.
  • Use the courier and packing standards described on the listing / shipping policy.
  • Provide tracking or proof of dispatch when available.

4. Release of funds

Buyer acceptance is an instruction for TradeSafe to release funds to the seller (and marketplace commission where applicable). If you do not act within the configured inspection period after delivery confirmation, TradeSafe may deem the goods accepted and release funds.

5. What escrow does not cover

  • Deals completed outside ToneTrade / TradeSafe.
  • Buyer’s change of mind after acceptance / automatic release (unless seller agrees and TradeSafe processes an amendment/refund).
  • Normal wear described honestly in a used listing, or buyer damage after delivery.

6. Disputes

Material issues (not as described, significant undisclosed damage, non-delivery) should follow Refunds & Disputes. Funds stay locked with TradeSafe while a dispute is active.
